Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a film that tries a little too hard to engage the audience on an emotional level but it fails in its attempt because it does feel forced, there’s a lack of character development despite a good try from the human leads.
The writing isn’t good and the humour? I don’t know man, some stuff could have really been left out.
However, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has the best action sequences in the entire franchise BUT I do find them to be a little forgettable with no real re-watch value, like when you see them they're good, they’re cool but there’s nothing begging you to come back to them in my opinion so it’s just a win-lose situation.
The best parts of the movie for me are the performances from Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, who really deserved better writing because they really did try to elevate their otherwise flat characters.
Overall this is a Transformers film good or bad and it doesn’t let you forget it, as a fan of the Transformers films there were moments that really had me going like the teaming up of the Maximals and Autobots but there were moments that also lost me like the forced emotional parts, where not enough groundwork was done and these moments felt unearned and I know transformers isn’t known for its dialogue but my god this had some really bad stuff and the humour that didn’t land.
Otherwise, it’s not bad but it’s not great either, though I guess it did a good job with the last few minutes or so cause that got me excited for a sequel/spin-off.
