“Boring, yawning, sloppy… lazy” - Abby Lee Miller.
Listen “65” features Adam Driver as a traveller from another planet stranded on prehistoric earth and he and this little girl must fight against dinosaurs as they try to find their way back, now you’d think that with all that “65” will be one hell of a time at the movies but sadly it’s not.
First, there are not enough dinosaurs, and when we do get dinosaurs it’s just repetitive with nothing to really engage you, the jump scares here and there would have been effective only if we hadn’t seen them coming from a mile away.
“65” really could have been a banging-over-the-top campy science fiction film with some B-movie roots but instead it tries to be a survival drama, a family drama and a dinosaur epic yet it fails on all fronts because the writing is very very weak and the story and characters are so underdeveloped it’s just shocking.
There’s nothing to these characters, and the poignant moments feel forced, it just lacks depth and you can tell that the root of the film’s problems stems from the writing.
Overall “65” is an underdeveloped science fiction thriller that lacks epic action sequences, and powerful emotional depth, and rather it settles for being a repetitive mess where it’s man vs dinosaur only this time the audience isn’t engaged enough to care about the “man” in the story.
