Okay so M3gan is a cute girl, I enjoyed myself and I actually could see myself coming back for ol’girl and her eventual sequel.
I liked what this movie was doing and what it was trying to say thematically but I can’t help but think that it could have been more you know? like what we got is okay but it really could have been GREAT if it upped the camp because what it gives us is just surface level, it could have upped its game when it came to the horror and kills cause what M3gan gives us is just some cute stuff, some very tame yet entertaining thrills and kills, I needed more blood and I needed gore.
I liked what this film was trying to say about how kids view death and grief, it was really interesting and I wish we could have gotten more threads on that, just to make the whole thing feel complete I don't know because I do feel like this part of it could have benefited from one or two more extra moments just to add more emotional depth and layering to what’s already there.
It also has some things to say about the buying of things aka consumerism I think, and our attachment to these things and their meanings in our lives, we tend to value objects more than human lives.
Overall this was a cute little movie that has a surprisingly good re-watch value and I actually was rooting for M3gan at some points in the movie and not in an ironic way but miss mamas was kinda serving… who would have thought that a movie about a killer android doll would tackle themes such as consumerism, death, and grief... huh cinéma is awesome.
