Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is at its core a classic Marvel movie in that it's almost absolutely passionless, and all it has to offer up are big CGI fights that are sure to keep the visual senses amazed yet when you strip that film of the rush job CGI what do you have left? a completely uninspired dead-on-arrival film that’s so badly written you’d think they shot it without a script… maybe they should have?
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania decides to go in a different direction that sees the film move away from small sized fun adventures of the previous two films, yet with all its seriousness the film still had a few quips here and there just to remind you it's still marvel Ant-Man film, however, these quips rarely work as they feel misplaced and they are delivered with no flare or passion.
The writing of this film was just plain lazy writing, it's almost like they didn’t want to write this film, it's a very pedestrian screenplay that is so lifeless and uninspired. the characters are thin and their journeys are completely emotionless, with all-round flatness.
And the staleness, passionless and lifelessness aren’t just from the screenplay but some of the performances too were just plain stale and un-engaging, apart from Jonathan Majors who is able to add some much-needed depth into Kang through his performance, a performance that nearly saves the movie though like the rest of the characters in the movie, Kang is let down by lazy writing and weak motivation in my opinion.
Though however, it's not all bad news, the film movies wonderfully, it's so quick and definitely a blink-and-you-’ll-miss-it kind of movie, and the pacing really helps an otherwise mess of a film.
Overall I wish there was some passion and care put into this film and its screenplay and direction because maybe I would have been able to forgive the horrible M.O.D.O.K CGI, in its quest to not be boring I fear the film at certain parts may have become boring which is a shame because I’d rather watch a flat out bad film than a boring film, and sadly Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania plays in the boring and bad lanes a little too frequently for my liking.
I’m sure hardcore MCU fans and young kids will enjoy this film because it hardly ever requires you to focus, its just a “this happened, and then this happened…” kind of film and passion wasn’t put into it, so it doesn’t require you to care for these characters and whatever they going through.
