GREATEST FILM EVER MADE. EASILY.
What I love about Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer or rather “Godenheimer” is that it isn’t your traditional biopic and it doesn’t try to make Oppenheimer the saviour or something it’s just a really great film about this complicated man who broke the world.
And it’s filled with such rich characters, they feel textured and layered and full of just complexities that make a person a person, the performances are world-class and man Robert Downey Jr made me a freaking believer, he and Matt Damon are easily in the running for best supporting actor.
Cillian and Emily have such fantastic chemistry together, and they work they do individually and together is just a masterclass in acting man, I could go on for days about how great this movie is and how IMPORTANT it is but I feel like my words aren’t even enough. GO SEE IT!
Oppenheimer essentially ended the world, what he and his colleagues built ensured the end of humanity, but this film doesn’t hide that.
It also doesn’t really focus on the other side aka the Japanese because that’s not the story it is telling.
It’s a study of a complex man who turned his eye away from morality or ethics or anything like that because he wanted to scratch that itch, he wanted to stroke his ego, he wanted to be remembered and because of that he created something that changed the world forever.
Maybe I’m not putting it correctly but what I’m saying is the film doesn’t sanitise him and I love it for that, some may question why it doesn’t take a firm stance considering how strong it’s anti-war messaging is but again the focus isn’t that but rather this man who built the most dangerous weapon in all of history.
